Organizing Committee

Welcome to the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering (CSChE) 72nd Canadian Chemical Engineering Conference (CCEC 2022). We are grateful to acknowledge that this event, hosted by the University of British Columbia at the Vancouver Convention Centre, is located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Coast Salish people – Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations.  

As we navigate through significant global challenges, we are once again reminded of our discipline’s impact on technical transition. We are fortunate to have this unique opportunity, particularly in times of crisis and transformation, of shifting how chemical and biological engineering shapes our shared planet.  

Building and managing our collective futures through engineering practices requires the ability to draw on past successes and failures to create new opportunities where we can innovate and ultimately thrive. Through a process of futuring we can anticipate, forecast, and construct social and technological advances. We encourage conference participants to boldly ask how we, as engineers during major global and historical changes, might imagine and then create these alternative futures?   

This year’s conference provides an opportunity to re-envision how the pillars of technical advancement, industrial applications, engineering education and student experiences forge pathways that lead to regenerative futures – imagining a healthy and flourishing global society that integrates the interconnected elements of those ecosystems and environments in which we share.  

We invite you to engage with us this October on a collaborative undertaking of futuring our engineering practices.
