Take the lead in Canada’s thriving chemical science,
and engineering community. Come Together at the CIC.
Chemistry is often referred to as the central science because it is a foundational part of every physical aspect of life and links together all the other sciences. At CIC there is an option for everyone–from chemistry enthusiasts to students and beyond. You can become a member by joining one of our two societies:
- the Canadian Society for Chemistry (CSC) and
- the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering (CSChE).
You can choose to affiliate and support the other sister society for just CAN $25.
You have access to a diverse range of benefits including professional development, discounts on conferences and events, access to chemistry professionals in your field, and much more.
Check the full list of benefits.
When joining, upgrading or renewing your CIC membership you can select a 1-year option or a lifetime membership. The latter is only available if you are 50 years of age or older.
Upon completing the online membership form, you become a member immediately and gain access to all our benefits straight away.
You can write to us at Membership@cheminst.ca. Alternatively, you can visit https://www.xcdsystem.com/cic/member/index.cfm to update your information.
50-year members of CIC receive complementary membership and conference registration in the fifty first and subsequent years in recognition of their dedication to CIC. In addition, retired member rates are lower than full member rates.
Of course. Anyone can join CIC. You don’t have to be Canadian or living in Canada. You just need to pick the category of membership that applies to you. One caveat is that student membership is complimentary for full time students at Canadian institutions only.
You can find information about your Subject Division at https://www.cheminst.ca/communities/divisions/. CIC has more than 15 Subject Divisions.
You can find information about your Local Section at https://www.cheminst.ca/communities/sections/. CIC has more than 25 active Local Sections.
Joining a Subject Division or Local Section is completely free. When joining or renewing your membership with CIC, you can designate your primary and secondary Subject Divisions. Additionally, you can specify your geographic location and you’ll automatically start receiving updates from your Local Section.
Joining CIC is complimentary for undergraduate and graduate students studying or working in chemistry full-time at a Canadian institution. In addition, CIC has more than 35 student chapters at universities across Canada. You can find their locations and get in touch at https://www.cheminst.ca/communities/students/student-chapters/.
If your location is not listed, you can also fill out an application and start your own CIC student chapter. And don’t forget to apply for funding to support upcoming initiatives.
If you’re unable to log in, please contact Membership@cheminst.ca and a member of the CIC National Team will be happy to assist you.
CIC is committed to protecting the privacy of our members. We strive to provide a safe, secure user experience. You can read our full privacy policy at https://www.cheminst.ca/privacy-policy/
CIC offers a 30% membership discount to the Canadian Association of Physicists. We do not offer membership discounts to sister societies in the chemical sciences but members can benefit from discounts to the American Chemical Society national meeting and from free access to the Royal Society of Chemistry’s magazine Chemistry World.
