This past November, 40 chemical engineering students from the University of Ottawa visited the Shell Canada Brockville Lubricants Plant, the largest blender and packager of retail passenger car motor oils in Canada, based in Brockville, Ont.
The day started with an introductory talk outlining the chemical engineering work that is taking place at the Brockville plant. This was followed by a tour of the control room, quality assurance labs, storage facility, packaging lines and blending and mixing lines. The trip was capped with a one hour networking session between students and senior Shell employees.
UOttawa participants were grateful for the opportunity to make professional contacts and to explore their career options. “It was great to see how some of the concepts we learned in class apply in the real world,” says CSChE student chapter president Simon Nouadjou. “It was a very insightful experience.” The chapter looks forward to future collaborations with the Brockville Lubricants Plant and is grateful for the support of the University of Ottawa cooperative education program team and the Engineering Endowment Fund.
