The Canadian Society for Chemistry (CSC) stands in unwavering solidarity with our American colleagues who are facing unprecedented challenges that threaten the integrity of scientific research and equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) initiatives that enrich the scientific community. Science thrives in an environment of openness, collaboration, and freedom of inquiry. Any efforts to suppress scientific progress, curtail academic freedom, or dismantle EDI initiatives undermine the very foundation of innovation and discovery.

As chemists, we recognize that science is a global endeavor, and progress is achieved through shared knowledge, diverse perspectives, and equitable opportunities. The reduction of support for underrepresented groups, restrictions on scientific communication, and limitations on evidence-based research not only hinder the advancement of chemistry but also compromise societal progress and environmental sustainability.

We affirm our commitment to upholding principles of scientific integrity, inclusivity, and international collaboration. We will continue to advocate for policies that protect the autonomy of researchers, ensure equitable access to opportunities, and foster a scientific community that reflects and serves all of society. We call on policymakers, institutions, and the global scientific community to resist these regressive measures and to stand united in defense of scientific freedom and inclusivity.

The CSC remains dedicated to supporting our colleagues in the United States and around the world, reaffirming our belief that science must remain free from political suppression and that diversity in science strengthens both research and society as a whole.
