What do you do at the CIC?

In my role as Coordinator on the National Team, the bulk of my role involves managing the logistics and operations of the CSC and CSChE conferences. I am also actively involved in the smooth operations of the professional development programs and career fair. Outside of conference planning, I work closely with the CIGs (subject divisions, local sections, and student chapters) in helping these groups reach their goals in their respective communities. I also support the Chemical Education Fund Board with their annual grants and scholarships, the Lionel Scholarship and Chemical Education Fund grants.

How has your background led up to this work?

I have been involved in the non-profit world for several years leading up to working with the National Team at CIC. During my graduate studies, I was actively involved in student leadership where I promoted EDI and various EDI initiatives within the chemical community on campus. I have also been active in a local ethno-cultural arts festival where year after year I am fortunate enough to connect with the local community to educate and learn together about the wonderful cultural communities in my city.

What else should people know about CIC?

The CIC National Team may be small, but it is made up of exceptionally talented individuals. However, our conferences—CSC and CSChE—would not be possible without the dedicated volunteers who help organize the many moving parts involved in executing events of this scale. There are numerous ways to get involved with the CIC, whether it is through your Local Section, Student Chapter, or Subject Division. If event planning is your strength, consider taking on a role as a conference sub committee chair.
