The May issue of CJCE features a new special series organized by guest editor Paul Amyotte of Dalhousie University: Process Safety Special Series. The preface and first article in the series can be found in this issue. In the preface, Dr. Amyotte notes that this special series will “feature papers from around the world addressing the theme of The Global Scope of Process Safety Research” and that the “intention is to demonstrate the role of process safety research in relation to the practice of chemical/process engineering and to showcase global excellence in process safety research to the broader chemical engineering research and industrial communities.” The first article in the series, an open access article by Holger Grosshans of Otto von Guericke University of Magdeburg titled “Influence of weak electrostatic charges and secondary flows on pneumatic powder transport”, discusses “the influence of relatively minor cross-sectional secondary flows and electrostatic forces on the concentration and dynamics of the particles.” Be sure to read this article and keep an eye out for future additions to this special series.

This month’s issue highlights are by authors from around the world: Brazil, Qatar, Malaysia, Spain, and Canada. The first, is a review article by authors from the Federal University of Paraná and Centro Internacional de Energias Renováveis (International Center of Renewable Energy)—Biogás (CIBiogás-ER) titled “Updates on biogas enrichment and purification methods: A review”. Next is an open access article titled “Prediction of critical total drawdown in sand production from gas wells: Machine learning approach” by authors from  Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS and Qatar University. The final issue highlight is an open access article titled “Distribution of potassium during chemical activation of petroleum coke: Electron microscopy evidence and links to phase behaviour” by authors from Spain and Canada. Access these articles specifically chosen by our Editor-in-Chief this month.

Have you heard about the two CJCE-supported symposia taking place at CSChE 2023?

The Advances in Chemical Engineering: A CJCE Symposium will feature a series of 20+ invited talks by speakers from 15+ institutions across 7 countries and will cover all areas of chemical engineering and are designed for a general audience of chemical engineers. Chemical engineers with all backgrounds and areas of expertise are encouraged to sit in on this symposium and learn about advances in the field from this exceptional lineup of experts.

The Symposium in Honour of Professor Archie E. Hamielec of McMaster University will feature 40+ invited talks that will cover diverse areas of polymerization reaction engineering and have been organized to honour the enduring legacy of Professor Archie E. Hamielec, one of the founders of polymerization reaction engineering. This outstanding group of speakers, from 30+ institutions across 10+ countries, exemplify the immense influence Professor Hamielec had, and continues to have, on this field.

Access the list of speakers for the Advances in Chemical Engineering: A CJCE Symposium here and for the Symposium in Honour of Prof. Archie E. Hamielec of McMaster University here. CJCE will also be publishing a Special Issue Honouring Professor Archie E. Hamielec later this year comprising invited articles from Professor Hamielec’s former students and colleagues, so be sure to look out for that issue.
