The 42nd annual Science Atlantic Chemistry Conference (ChemCon 2017) was held in St. John’s at Memorial University of Newfoundland May 4-6.The conference hosted more than 140 participants including undergraduate and graduate students as well as professionals from academia and industry. Over the course of three days, students gave oral and poster presentations that showcased the diverse chemistry research happening in Atlantic Canada. The conference’s two keynote speakers included University of Toronto associate chemistry professor Jennifer Murphy and University of British Columbia chemistry professor Mark MacLachlan.

One of the highlights was ChemCon’s graduate school fair, which provided students with key information about graduate studies programs from universities across Canada.

The evenings were filled with numerous social events including an opening night mixer with pizza and trivia, a Newfoundland “screech-in” and a George Street pub crawl. It concluded with a banquet and awards dinner. 

ChemCon 2018 will be hosted by Saint Mary’s University in Halifax.
