Laurence Meadows of Mitacs, a not-for-profit organization that funds internships and fellowships to encourage innovation, presents at a Vancouver Local Section event in January. In partnership with the NSERC-Pacific Regional office, the Local Section hosted the B.C. Academic-Industry Mixer at the Harbour Centre campus of Simon Fraser University. The event brought together academic researchers, industry representatives and facilitating agencies with the goal of developing new academic-industrial collaborations and research opportunities. Neil Burford of the University of Victoria, Laurel Schafer of the University of British Columbia, Gary Leach of Simon Fraser University, Rick Warner of NSERC, Rui Resendes of GreenCentre Canada and Madhvi Ramnial of Powertech Labs also presented. More than 50 people attended the event.
