The CCUCC Chemistry Doctoral Award is presented to recognize outstanding achievement and potential in research by a graduate student whose PhD thesis in chemistry was formally accepted by a Canadian university in the 12–month period preceding the nomination deadline.
Kathleen E. Prosser, MCIC

Originally from Quispamsis NB, Kathleen (Kate) Prosser completed her undergraduate degree at Mount Allison University, conducting research with Steve Westcott looking at novel hydroboration reagents. Kate then went on to pursue her doctorate at Simon Fraser University. There she worked with Charles Walsby on spectroscopic tools for the evaluation of copper complexes for anticancer applications. Her doctoral work was supported by both an Alexander Graham Bell Graduate Scholarship and a Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship. In addition to her research, recognized with the 2019 Award for Graduate Work in Inorganic Chemistry by the CSC Inorganic Division, she is extensively involved in the women in STEM community. Kate is currently an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California San Diego where she is researching metalloenzyme inhibitor design in the lab of Seth Cohen.
