Spotlight Videos—an initiative of the CSC’s Working for Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity (WIDE) Committee—shines a light on chemists from diverse backgrounds and creates opportunities for increased representation of diverse researchers and scientists. Each month, CIC News highlights one researcher from the Spotlight Videos library.
Maxine Kirshenbaum is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Toronto working with Dr. Mark Wilson. Maxine’s current research focuses on the chemistry and physics of nanocrystals, such as quantum dots. Maxine creates molecular soups to produce desired tiny rocks with tailored optical properties. Ultimately, such colourful rocks may end up being used in drug delivery, energy applications, and materials design.
In this WIDE Spotlight Video, Maxine describes their diverse research experiences across various areas of chemistry, and highlights the support from various mentors throughout their academic and personal journey.
