Since 1982, the CNC–IUPAC Travel Awards have provided essential support to early-career Canadian chemists looking to engage with the global scientific community. Offered by the Chemical Institute of Canada (CIC), the award helps researchers within 10 years of their Ph.D. attend IUPAC-sponsored conferences abroad, strengthening both professional growth and international collaboration.
Eligible applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents working at a Canadian institution. Academic applicants are encouraged to demonstrate not only research excellence but also their mentorship and leadership potential—especially in inclusive and diverse environments.
How to apply
The award offers up to $2,500 in travel reimbursement. To apply, candidates must submit a single PDF with a CV (max five pages), a cover letter explaining the significance of attending a specific IUPAC event, and two reference letters—one of which must come from outside their home institution. All documents must be submitted to impellizzeri@torontomu.ca, including letters sent directly by referees.
Winners are selected by the CNC–IUPAC Travel Awards Committee and announced annually following the group’s December meeting. Each recipient is required to submit a summary report after attending the event and may only receive the award once.
For many recipients, this award is a launchpad—connecting them to international peers, raising the visibility of their work, and catalyzing new research opportunities. It reflects CIC’s commitment to investing in the future of Canadian chemistry on a global scale.
The deadline to apply is Sept. 15, 2025.
