The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering recently received exciting news: our 2-year impact factor has increased from 1.265 to 1.610. The journal’s 5-year impact factor has also increased from 1.395 to 1.495. These increases mean that the journal’s impact factor is at a new all-time high, thanks to the high-quality research from our authors.
Journal impact factors are published annually by the Web of Science Group in the Journal Citation Report. The 2-year impact factor takes all of the articles published by Can. J. Chem. Eng. in 2017 and 2018 and looks at how many total citations they received in 2018. This number of total citations is then divided by the number of articles (citable items) published by the journal across 2017 and 2018. Because the metric looks at not only the total number of citations, but also the number of articles, an increase in the number of articles published often leads to a decrease in impact factor.
Can. J. Chem. Eng.’s newly improved impact factor is particularly remarkable because we actually published more articles in the last two years than ever before, with 271 citable items in 2018 and 256 in 2017.
“Congratulations to the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering and Can. J. Chem. Eng.,” says Wiley Executive Editor, Mia Ricci. “It’s wonderful to see a new all-time high of the journal’s Impact Factor. As long-time publishing partner of Can. J. Chem. Eng., Wiley celebrates this milestone together with the hardworking journal editorial staff and of course the entire research community who continues to contribute impactful research to the journal.”
This improvement in citation rates for Can. J. Chem. Eng. is a testament to the cutting-edge research of the Canadian chemical engineering community and our international authors. Editor-in-Chief João B. P. Soares notes that “the substantial increase in our impact factor this year reflects the loyalty of our authors, the diligence of our reviewers, and the dedication of our Editorial and International Advisory Boards. We have no doubt that the impact of CJCE on the international chemical engineering community will continue increasing due to the exceptional work of all of them.”
