Spotlight Videos—an initiative of the CSC’s Working for Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity (WIDE) Committee—shines a light on chemists from diverse backgrounds and creates opportunities for increased representation of diverse researchers and scientists. Each month, CIC News highlights one researcher from the Spotlight Videos library.

Dr. Saurabh Chitnis is an Assistant Professor at Dalhousie University with expertise in synthetic inorganic chemistry.  They use elements to make molecules with specific shapes, geometries, and topologies, which influence their potential applications.

In this WIDE Spotlight Video, Prof. Chitnis refers to the fascination with symmetry at an early age and reflects on their experience as an equity-deserving member. Dr. Chitnis also describes the importance and the commitment to the training environment and recognizes the challenges and barriers experienced by members of the chemistry community, specifically trainees. The initiatives, such as Spotlight videos, conference organizing, and participation in governance, provide much-needed platforms for diverse voices in chemical sciences.
