The Canadian Society for Chemistry (CSC} is proud to announce the official launch of the Working for Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Committee’s (CSC WIDE) website. CSC WIDE works to promote and advocate for equity, diversity and inclusion through research and education, and work to advance diversity and equity issues in the Canadian Society for Chemistry policies, practices, and activities.

A Resource Hub
The CSC WIDE website is set to become a valuable resource hub for all members of our community. In the coming weeks and months, a wide range of resources aimed at improving equity, diversity, and inclusion in chemistry will be added to the website. From articles to guides, these resources will be accessible to everyone and will cover a variety of topics to support our collective journey toward a more inclusive chemistry landscape.

A Year of Impact
In addition to a website, CSC WIDE has been working hard to create a chemistry community that is fair, free from barriers, and firmly rooted in EDI principles. The committee is attuned to the systemic challenges faced by many community members and is determined to identify and dismantle these barriers. Over the past year, CSC WIDE has been actively engaged in various EDI initiatives, including:

  • Spotlighting Diversity: Through social media and initiatives like Spotlight Videos (funded by the Chemical Education Fund), CSC WIDE has showcased the rich diversity within our community, celebrating the achievements and contributions of individuals from all backgrounds.
  • Inclusive Policies and Practices: CSC WIDE has developed the CSC’s Self-Identification Questionnaire and has been instrumental in recommending policies that promote equity and inclusivity within the CSC itself.
  • Enhanced Accessibility: The committee has been a driving force in advocating for greater accessibility in all CSC activities and events, including the Canadian Chemistry Conference and Exhibition.

We invite you to explore the new CSC WIDE website at https://www.cheminst.ca/wide and stay tuned for updates as we continue to expand our resources and initiatives. Your engagement and support are vital as we work together to build a more inclusive and diverse chemistry community.
