Bio: Richard Knowles, PhD is President of Richard N. Knowles and Associates, Inc. He spent 36 years at DuPont Company and Research with 40 US Patents. At Dupont he held the positions of Research Engineer; Manufacturing / Operations Engineer; Process Safety Management Coordinator and has experience as a Manager of several large chemical plants. He is a leader in world-wide safety & leadership consulting contributed in locations like Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Canada, US, UK, Italy for over 27 Years.
He is a creator of the Process Enneagram© and the Partner-Centered Leadership Process©.
He contributed as global Process Safety Management Subject Matter Expert (SME) and a leader for organizations like Baker Risk Engineering and Risk Consultants, Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS), Cabot Corporation; Fumed Metal Oxides Division, etc.. In terms of books and publications he is principal author of three CCPS Guidelines; Co-author of book on Process Safety; Multiple other publications and creator of AIChE / CCPS / SAChE training modules.
He has a passion to help organizations move towards and sustain safety excellence using systems thinking to solve complex problems working with teams at all organizational levels to share information, build trust and interdependence, and release the energy and creativity of the people. He uses the simple, powerful Cycle of Intelligence© tool that helps people to solve complex problems, opens the social connections they’ll need and builds the emotional energy and commitment to get the job done quickly, all at the same time! In using this approach as a plant manager, he led his 1,300-person chemical manufacturing plant to excellence reducing the Total Recordable Injury Rate by 98%, lowering emissions by 95%, increasing productivity by 45% and raising earnings by 300%.
Richard holds a PhD in Organic Chemistry from University of Rochester, NY in 1961.
