The seminar will discuss the following topics, but will focus on process safety – i.e., acute events with acute effects involving hazardous chemicals
- Risk: what is risk; how is it related to safety; what do we mean by process safety; how do we measure risk; why do we consider risk?
- How do we analyze and evaluate risk – “the risk assessment”. This will consider the different types of risk assessments including PHA and QRA, including how they differ, how they are or can be related, and the pros and cons of each method
- Special emphasis will be provided on risk evaluation (tolerance) criteria, including risk matrices, individual risk and societal risk
- Risk management – the risk management framework in CSA Z767 will be described and how it should be used to manage process safety.
