The 2025 winner of the Gilead Award for Excellence in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion is:

Isabelle Marcotte, MCIC
Université du Québec à Montréal

Isabelle Marcotte obtained her PhD in chemistry in 2003 at Université Laval, under the supervision of Prof. Michèle Auger. During her PhD, she focused on the study of membrane systems using solid-state NMR, particularly investigating the interaction of peptides with phospholipid model membranes. She then pursued postdoctoral research under the guidance of Prof. Beat Meier at ETH-Zurich, where she expanded her expertise in applying solid-state NMR to study complex proteins such as spider silk. In 2006, she was hired by the Université du Québec à Montréal, where she established her laboratory dedicated to the study of protein fibers and the development of in-cell solid-state NMR methodologies. She has been a Full Professor in the Department of Chemistry since 2015 and Vice-Dean of Research for the Faculty of Science since 2017. Isabelle is deeply committed to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in her community. Among her significant achievements is the establishment of an institutional “Women in Science Fund” to support women pursuing graduate studies in science. She actively participates in various outreach activities, including public lectures, podcasts, and discussion panels promoting the critical role of women in science and innovation.
