CSC-Pacifichem Travel Awards

The Canadian Society for Chemistry (CSC) is pleased to offer travel awards to support Canadian participation in the International Chemical Congress of Pacific Basin Societies (Pacifichem 2025), which will take place in Honolulu, Hawaii, from December 15–20, 2025. As the host society for this congress, the CSC is committed to helping Canadian early-career researchers and highly qualified personnel (HQP) present their work and engage with the global chemistry community.

ECR CSC-Pacifichem Travel Awards

  • Open to early-career researchers holding a permanent* appointment (Assistant Professor or equivalent, including teaching/education-focused colleagues) at a Canadian post-secondary institution.
  • Applicants must be within six years of their first appointment (excluding parental or other leaves).
  • Undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and research associates are not eligible for the ECR award and should instead apply for the HQP award.

*Permanent for Assistant Professors (or equivalent) implies a tenured or tenure-track position. For teaching/education-focused colleagues, institutional context of “permanent” will be considered. Applicants on short-term (< 1 year) teaching contracts are not eligible.

HQP CSC-Pacifichem Travel Awards

  • Open to undergraduate students, graduate students (MSc or PhD) or post-doctoral research associates (within 5 years of PhD) at a Canadian post-secondary institution.

Criteria

Applicants must be members of the Canadian Society for Chemistry (CSC). The adjudication committee will primarily assess the quality and impact of past achievements in research or SoTL either as an independent researcher (for ECR) or during doctoral/post-doctoral studies (for HQP), but will also consider any other factors, including financial ones, that justify the application for this travel award.

Purpose of the Awards

  • The CSC-Pacifichem Travel Awards support Canadian early-career researchers and highly qualified personnel (HQP) to attend and present at Pacifichem 2025. Eligible costs include conference registration, flights, accommodations, and other expenses directly associated with attending the congress.

Number of Awards

  • At least three ECR awards will be available.
  • At least three HQP awards will be available.

Award Amount

  • ECR CSC-Pacifichem Travel Awards: up to $3,000 each.
  • HQP CSC-Pacifichem Travel Awards: up to $2,500 each.
  • Awards will be paid in arrears upon submission of proper documentation of expenses.

How to Apply

Applications should be submitted as a single PDF file (unless otherwise noted) and must include:

  1. Cover Letter (1-page maximum)
    • Outline achievements and benefits of attending Pacifichem.
    • Include CSC membership number.
    • Address financial need and other sources of funding (e.g., grants, other travel awards).
  2. Support Letter (1-page maximum)
    • From Department Chair (ECR), academic colleague (ECR), or supervisor (HQP).
    • Support letters may be sent under separate cover to CICAdmin@cheminst.ca.
  3. Curriculum Vitae (max. 5 pages)
  4. Copy or Copies of Accepted Pacifichem Abstract(s)

Bourses de voyage de la SCC-Pacifichem

Le Congrès international des sociétés de chimie du bassin du Pacifique (Pacifichem 2025) aura lieu à Honolulu (Hawaï) du 15 au 20 décembre 2025. En tant que société hôte, la Société canadienne de chimie (CSC) offre des bourses de voyage pour soutenir la participation des chercheuses canadiens et chercheurs en début de carrière (CDC) et des personnes hautement qualifiées (PHQ). Ces bourses visent à faciliter la présentation des travaux et les échanges au sein de la communauté internationale.

Bourse de voyage CDC SCC-Pacifichem

  • Ouverte aux professeures adjointes/professeurs adjoints (ou rang équivalent pour les collègues axés sur l’enseignement) en poste dans un établissement postsecondaire canadien.
  • Les personnes candidates doivent être dans les six premières années suivant leur première nomination (hors congés parentaux ou autres congés).
  • Les personnes étudiantes (1er cycle/2e–3e cycles), stagiaires postdoctorales/postdoctoraux et associées/associés de recherche ne sont pas admissibles à la bourse CDC et devraient postuler à la bourse PHQ.

Bourse de voyage PHQ SCC-Pacifichem

  • Ouvert aux étudiants de premier cycle, aux étudiants diplômés (maîtrise ou doctorat) ou aux associés de recherche postdoctoraux (dans les cinq ans suivant l’obtention du doctorat) d’un établissement d’enseignement postsecondaire canadien.

Critères d’admissibilité

Les personnes candidates doivent être membres de la SCC. Le comité d’évaluation évaluera principalement la qualité et l’impact des réalisations passées en matière de recherche ou de SoTL, soit en tant que chercheur indépendant (pour les ECR), soit au cours d’études doctorales/postdoctorales (pour les HQP), mais tiendra également compte de tout autre facteur, y compris financier, justifiant la demande de cette bourse de voyage.

* Définition de “début de carrière” : un poste de professeure adjoint/professeur adjoint (ou équivalent) menant à la permanence. Pour les collègues en enseignement/éducation, le contexte institutionnel de « permanence » sera pris en compte. Les contrats d’enseignement de courte durée (< 1 an) ne sont pas admissibles.

Objeticfs des bourses

Les bourses soutiennent la participation et la présentation au congrès Pacifichem 2025. Les dépenses admissibles comprennent l’inscription au congrès, les vols, l’hébergement et autres frais directement liés à la participation. Le comité de sélection évaluera principalement la qualité et l’impact des réalisations passées en recherche ou en pédagogie (SoTL), ainsi que tout autre facteur pertinent, notamment lebesoin financier.

Nombre de bourses

  • Au moins trois (3) bourses CDC.
  • Au moins trois (3) bourses PHQ.

Montant des bourses

  • Bourse CDC : jusqu’à 3 000 $ chacune.
  • Bourse PHQ : jusqu’à 2 500 $ chacune.
  • Les bourses sont versées sous forme de remboursement, sur présentation des pièces justificatives de dépenses.
