Seminar Title: Honouring Margaret-Ann Armour’s Legacy: Reflecting on the bonds we’ve created [2026 Award Lecture: Margaret-Ann Armour Award for Early Career Chemistry Education]
Dr. Kris Kim is an Associate Professor, Teaching Stream, at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC). He has shown dedication to supporting student success through multiple phases of his academic career. His prior experiences training and supporting teaching assistants (TA) to leading a team of Learning Strategists to foster students’ metacognitive skills at the University of Toronto have motivated facets of his teaching philosophy as a faculty member at UTSC. Kris is an advocate of working with students (both undergraduate and graduate) as partners through pedagogical projects and curriculum development. He also strives to offer innovative ways of bringing experiential learning to students, such as through community-engaged projects and was a Community Engaged Learning Faculty Fellow (2021/22). He has fostered partnerships across teaching and research initiatives with collaborators like the Campus Farm, Culinaria Research Centre, and the Toronto Zoo. Since joining UTSC in 2019, he was the recipient of the UTSC Assistant Professor Teaching Award (2023) and UofT Early Career Teaching Award (2023) and sits on several campus and institution level committees aimed at enhancing the undergraduate experience, such as the Undergraduate Research Website Advisory Committee and Centre for Community Partnership Faculty Advisory Committee.
