The 2026 winner of the Lectureship Award is:

Jinguang Hu,
MCIC
University of Calgary

Dr. Jinguang Hu is an Associate Professor of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering and a Schulich Research Chair at the University of Calgary. Since establishing his independent academic career in Canada in 2018, he has emerged as an international leader in sustainable chemical engineering, with a research program focused on biomass valorization, green hydrogen production, CO₂ conversion, and renewable materials. Dr. Hu is the inventor of Biomass Photorefining, a sunlight-driven platform that enables the co-production of green hydrogen and value-added biochemicals under ambient conditions, representing a new paradigm in low-energy biorefining. His work integrates catalysis, biotechnology, photochemistry, and reactor engineering, and has led to over 300 peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Hu has secured over $11 million in competitive research funding and maintains strong industrial partnerships supporting pilot-scale deployment and commercialization. His contributions have been recognized by numerous honors, including election to the Royal Society of Canada’s College of New Scholars, the CSChE Bao and Zhu Innovation Award, and the Schulich Early Research Excellence Award, underscoring his exceptional promise and impact within Canada’s chemical engineering community.
