The 2016 winner of the Process Safety Management Award is:


Richard Piette, Suncor Energy Inc.

Richard Piette received a BEng from McMaster University in chemical engineering and a MScE from Queen's University in process control, chemical engineering. He worked as a process control engineering at several companies including Treiber Controls, Walsh Automation and Petro-Canada.  At Petro-Canada Piette worked in the Downstream head office technical group helping refining and lubricants sites on risk assessments and related process safety activities. He moved to Suncor Energy in 2009 as process safety manager. He is presently Manager, Process Integrety at Suncor where he provides expertise in consequence analysis & facility siting, process hazard analysis, quantitative risk assessments, guidance on hazard identification and risk matrix interpretation, support for the Risk Registry tool, and will support enablement Corporate Risk Management practices.
