The 2024 winner of the Ricardo Aroca Award is:

Aaron Wheeler, MCIC
University of Toronto

Aaron Wheeler completed his Ph.D. in Chemistry w at Stanford University in 2003. After a postdoctoral fellowship at UCLA, Wheeler was hired as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the University of Toronto in 2005. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2010 and Full Professor in 2013. In the recent past, he has received the Royal Society of Chemistry Horizon Prize (2021, with Andre and Myna Simpson and others), the SCIEX Microscale Separations Innovations Medal (2019), the Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Microfluidic Bioanalysis (2018), the Lab on a Chip Pioneer of Miniaturization Award (2017), and an NSERC E.W.R. Steacie Fellowship (2015). He serves as Editor-in-Chief of the influential journal, Lab on a Chip, and will co-host the MicroTAS conference in Montreal in October 2024. He and his research group are known for developing microfluidic tools to analyze the chemistries of complex biological samples.
