International Year of the Periodic Table

UNESCO-IYPT-2019Throughout 2019, the CIC joins the world in celebrating the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements (IYPT2019)! In addition to IYPT2019, this year also marks the 100th anniversary of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC100).

Join us at the 102nd Canadian Chemistry Conference and Exhibition (CCCE 2019) in June in Quebec City, where we will be celebrating “Chemistry Across the Periodic Table” by asking conference delegates to highlight the chemical element most prominent in their abstract. The conference theme is “Celebrating IUPAC’s 100th Anniversary: Canada’s Place in Global Chemical Research, Innovation and Education.” Stay tuned for more exciting announcements!

How are you celebrating IYPT 2019? Share your activities using #IYPT2019 and tag us @CIC_ChemInst on Twitter and Instagram.

Get Involved!

If you’re a member of the CIC community and are organizing an event for IYPT2019, email us and we’ll list it here! Get in touch with your CIC Local Section to find out about their IYPT2019 events or to suggest ideas.

Looking for ideas? Consider running an event during Science Odyssey (May 4-19, 2019) or Science Rendezvous (May 11, 2019). For more inspiration, take a look at the IYPT2019 website.

Periodic Table of Younger Chemists

Congratulations to those in the Canadian chemistry community who have been highlighted in IUPAC100’s Periodic Table of Younger Chemists! There are still opportunities to nominate an outstanding younger Canadian chemist!

Periodic Table display at the University of Saskatchewan

April 15-26, 2019

The Women in Chemistry group at the University of Saskatchewan will be displaying a Periodic Table poster around campus for students, faculty, and members of the public to observe and learn from during April 15-26, 2019. Participants will have the opportunity to learn facts from their favorite elements and to take on the IUPAC periodic table challenge. They will also be able to get a card of their favourite element and a pocket periodic table for a small donation. All donors will be entered in a draw to win amazing prices! Find out more
