Gordon Thomson

September 10, 1941 - February 7, 2016
Suddenly in his sleep in his 75th year, at home in Arizona. Survived by the love of his life, Val, his wife and best friend of 52 years. Adored and admired by his son, Gavin (Anne), his daughter Marjie (Derek, Max & Bonnie), his other ''kids'' Ed & Elissa, his brother Robert (Heather), his ''sister'' Bonnie (Lowell), and his beloved dog, Ginny. Gordon was born in Calgary in 1941 to Gavin and Ella Thomson and grew up in Vancouver. He met Val in grade 12 English class at North Vancouver High School and knew very soon that he wanted her to be his wife. Gord was top of his class in Chemical Engineering at the University of British Columbia. Upon graduation in 1964, he was offered 5 positions with various oil companies. He chose to start his career at Imperial Oil and travelled with his family to Sarnia, Toronto, New York, Calgary, and Houston, enjoying a highly successful 33-year career. After retirement in 1996, Gord and Val continued their adventure in Arizona where they enjoyed golf, sunshine, and great friends. They travelled the world together and recently with their kids were thrilled to return to Africa as a whole family.Gord was a quiet, brilliant, and generous man of steadfast integrity. We were all blessed to have him in our lives. Gord was moved by the orphans he met in a small village in South Africa; he gave generously to assist their efforts to improve the school, housing and community. Donations in Gord's memory can be made by contacting Rinske at community@savannalodge.com A celebration of Gord's life will take place at a later date in Caledon, Ontario at the family home.
