Don Mutton, FCIC, (right), of the Chemical Institute of Canada’s Hawkesbury Local Section presents the CIC trophy for Best Project to Jeremy Malette and Samantha Peets from St. Joseph’s Secondary School in Cornwall, Ont. Their project, “UPOD: The Sixth Sense” involved a mobile sensing device that can be used to help blind people detect objects in their path. The award was given out at the 40th United Counties Science Fair, held this past April at St. Lawrence Secondary School in Cornwall. There were 75 science projects by students in Grades 6-12 from 17 schools and more than 130 Science on the Wall posters by Grade 1-5 students.
