The Quebec Centre for Functional Materials (CQMF) held its 7th Annual Conference in Shawinigan, Que. this past November. The two-day event brought together more than 200 graduate and undergraduate students, post-docs and faculty members with 20 industrial collaborators and many other partnering organizations. Keynote speakers included researchers Eugenia Kumacheva of the University of Toronto, who revealed how to get adaptable hydrogel materials from fibrous biological tissues, and Michael Eikerling of Simon Fraser University who discussed fuel cell innovations. With 40 oral presentations held in parallel sessions and a poster session where more than 70 posters were presented, members of the CQMF were able to share their knowledge and expertise with colleagues involved in various applications related to functional materials. Prizes for posters and presentations were also awarded.
