Members of the CIC Rubber Division pose in front of a giant tire at the organization’s 62nd technical program held June 18-19 in Leduc, Alta. The theme for the biannual event was “Rubber Technology Advances in the Oil Field Industry,” which attracted about 60 attendees including 11 speakers from the rubber industry.
Presenters gave talks ranging from specific heat and oil resistance elastomers, fatigue and failure behavior and rubber to metal adhesion. Course material was geared towards oil well downhole (stator pumps, O-rings, seals, packers) and peripheral applications such as tank linings. Participants also had a guided tour of the Leduc #1 Energy Discovery Centre.
