The Inorganic Chemistry Division is pleased to announce the 2018 winners of the Award for Graduate Research in Inorganic Chemistry (AGWIC) and the Award for Undergraduate Research in Inorganic Chemistry (AURIC).

The AGWIC winner is Gwen Bailey from the University of Ottawa. Bailey recently completed her Ph.D. under the supervision of Deryn Fogg. Her doctoral research focused on understanding the decomposition of highly reactive intermediates in olefin metathesis. Such understanding is key to informed catalyst and process redesign, and ultimately, to realizing the full power of metathesis methodologies.

The AURIC Winner is Leea Stott from Simon Fraser University. Stott explored water oxidation, an important half reaction for the storage of solar energy, under the supervision of Jeffrey Warren. Her work with Warren’s group led to a publication in ChemComm.

Bailey and Stott will present award lectures at the upcoming 101st Canadian Chemistry Conference and Exhibition in Edmonton, AB.
