FAQ
In 2026, the Chemical Institute of Canada (CIC) is piloting a concurrent event where the Canadian Society for Chemistry (CSC) and the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering (CSChE) will hold their annual conferences together. This event, the Canadian Societies for Chemistry and Chemical Engineering 2026 Conferences and Exhibition (x2026), hosted by the CSC and CSChE, will take place from May 24–28, 2026, at the Metro Toronto Convention Center in Toronto, ON, Canada.
The concurrent event aims to provide an enhanced experience by bringing together professionals from chemistry, chemical technology and chemical engineering fields. This pilot event has been approved by the two constituent societies (CSC and CSChE) with the goal to foster greater collaboration and networking opportunities for our current and future members, and the broader community.
No, this is a pilot initiative for 2026. In 2027, the conferences will return to being separate. CSC is proud to host the 2027 IUPAC World Chemistry Congress and the annual CSC conference concurrently in July 2027 in Montréal, whereas the CSChE 2027 conference will tentatively be held in the Spring.
The CSC and CSChE Boards of Directors are currently in discussion about hosting concurrent conferences once again in 2028. More information will be shared with members as it becomes available.
The concurrent event offers several benefits, including:
- Expanded networking opportunities with a more diverse community of professionals.
- Access to a wider range of symposia, workshops, and keynotes.
- Increased multidisciplinarity and collaboration between chemistry and chemical engineering disciplines.
- Enhanced exhibition and career fair, with more comprehensive opportunities for exhibitors and sponsors and increased visibility and access to a larger audience.
The concurrent conferences will take place from May 24–28, 2026, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, ON, Canada.
The conferences will be held concurrently, with each society maintaining its distinct identity and programming that is specific to chemistry, chemical technology, and chemical engineering. In addition, there will be joint symposia focusing on interdisciplinary topics that bridge the two disciplines. The Conference Organizing Committee (COC) will carefully coordinate the schedules to maximize opportunities for attendees to participate in sessions from CSC and CSChE. A detailed program will be available well in advance.
x2026 attendees will be able to register through a unified registration portal. Conference delegates are welcome to attend sessions from both CSC and CSChE conferences as well as joint symposia, providing greater flexibility and access to a diverse range of topics and speakers. Your conference registration fee will gain you access to sessions from both societies.
Registration details will be available on the conference website closer to the event date. Members will receive regular updates and reminders via email and social media.
Yes, there will be special joint symposia and networking events designed to maximize interaction between delegates from both CSC and CSChE. Detailed schedules will be shared as the event approaches.
x2026 should not be impacted, as the FIFA World Cup is scheduled to start on June 11 while our event runs May 24–28.
Stay informed by signing up for CIC News, following CIC’s social media channels, and regularly checking the conference website. Email updates will be sent to all members as additional information becomes available.
