A Message from the Conference Chair

March 2020

On behalf of the organizing committee, it is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering’s (CSChE) 70th edition of the Canadian Chemical Engineering Conference taking place in Canada’s capital city, Ottawa, Ontario*. You will enjoy October in Ottawa, as the autumn symphony of the colourful change of seasons complements the many parks and cultural attractions that our Nation’s capital has to offer. Ottawa’s beautiful mix of nature and urban landscape will leave you pensive as to how we should coexist with our environment.

Chemical engineering is foundational to the Canadian economy and is critical to solving many global challenges. This is especially apparent in the topics of preservation of natural resources and the sustainability of new and existing technologies. In order to address these pressing issues, the theme of this year’s conference is “Chemical Engineering for a Sustainable Future”. The conference program will be covering a range of important topics: from the development of innovative solutions for clean energy and greater energy efficiency to carbon capture, storage and utilization, as well as emerging materials for medicine, catalysis, transportation and energy among many others.

Ottawa is a perfect place to hold this event as a nexus of government, academia. Together, we can exchange perspectives, share scientific findings, ideas, and strategies, and most importantly create solutions. Such an exchange is beneficial to all as today, the future of our planet is in our hands more than ever. As chemical engineers we have the power and the responsibility to advance sustainable practices — our collaboration has the power to benefit Canadians and humanity as a whole.

The CCEC 2020 will continue to build on the success of the Emerging Leaders in Chemical Engineering special plenary session, with a call for nominations expected early in the summer of 2020. The conference will also feature several core technical sessions and an integrated and exciting student program for both undergraduate and graduate students.

On behalf of the CCEC 2020 organizing committee, we wish to welcome all chemical science professionals to Ottawa and to thank you for your participation and contribution to this annual event that brings our community together. We wish you a successful and enjoyable conference
