What is the Green Chemistry Initiative?
The Dalhousie Green Chemistry Initiative (Dal GCI) is a student-run organization that was established in 2017 with the purpose of introducing the formal education of green chemistry to the Dalhousie Chemistry community. Undergraduate and graduate students from chemistry, biochemistry, and physics come together to develop interdisciplinary solutions to improve hazard awareness and environmental responsibility in day-to-day scientific research at the university level.
We strive to establish a standard of sustainability in the chemical sciences by raising awareness and providing the tools for communities to implement modern responsible practices in our lives, education, and industry.
Our Core Values
- To serve as a resource for green chemistry for educational institutions and the general public
- To strive for the implementation of eco-friendly approaches in undergraduate and graduate labs at Dalhousie University
- To raise awareness of the principles of green chemistry and how they can be used by chemical sciences researchers and professionals
- To promote green chemistry and support liked-minded groups / events in the larger community through outreach and partnerships
