History of the Tire and Rubber Association of Canada
The history of the Association will provide unique insights and understanding of our industry’s role in contributing to Canada’s success over the past 100 years, and will highlight key events that impacted the tire and rubber industry in Canada over the past century.
Celebrating its 1ooth anniversary in 2020, the Association has been representing the interests of tire and other rubber manufacturers and importers of rubber goods into Canada, and today also represents rubber recyclers and suppliers whose goods and services directly relate to the industry. As the national trade association, its mandate is to strengthen and protect the reputation and competitiveness of the Canadian tire and rubber industry.
The seminar will look at the Association’s beginnings in 1920s, the significant contributions of the Canadian rubber industry to the War Effort which culminated in establishment of Polymer Corporation in Sarnia Ont. in 1942, and the later decades of building technical expertise and national and international working relationships. Later, in 1980s, the seminar will look at the Association’s NAFTA negotiations which assured that the Canadian tire manufacturing remained competitive to this day. Further we look at the Association leading the development of winter tire standards as well as the dawn of sustainability in the 1990s; and establishing sustainable business models for end-of-life tire management in Canada in 21st century.
