Topic: Implementing Course-Based Undergraduate Research (CUREs) Opportunities for Students

Biography: Kris Kim is an Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, in the Department of Physical & Environmental Sciences at the University of Toronto Scarborough. He is responsible for teaching first-year general and second-year analytical chemistry courses. He is currently a Community-Engaged Learning Faculty Fellow at the Centre for Community Partnerships at UofT and helps support initiatives related to outreach and recruitment in the local community. His research interests include co-designing new virtual and in-person lab experiences with students, for students.

Topic: Implementing Course-Based Undergraduate Research (CUREs) Opportunities for Students

Biography: In 2008 Dr. Mikhaylichenko joined the Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences (DPES) at the University of Toronto as a full-time Lecturer. In 2015 Lana Mikhaylichenko was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor, and in 2020 to the Professor, Teaching Stream at the same department. She served DPES as an Associate Chair Undergraduate studies from September 2016 till December 2020. Whilst teaching a range of undergraduate courses, she was nominated for several awards since joining UTSC.  Dr. Mikhaylichenko is a recipient of the University of Toronto Scarborough Outstanding Teaching Award in 2014, UTSC D.R. Campbell Merit Award in 2008, and numerous University of Toronto Scarborough Dean’s Merit Excellence Awards.  She is using a student-centred teaching approach whatever comes to classroom or laboratory teaching.

Topic: Project-Based Learning in the Undergraduate Organic Chemistry Lab

Biography: Sharonna Greenberg is an assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at McMaster University. She is responsible for teaching first-year and second-year chemistry courses and helping to coordinate outreach, recruitment, and mentorship events. Her research interests include creating new technologies and assessment methods in the chemistry curriculum.

Topic: Preparing students for research-based and project-based experiments and oral evaluation in the undergraduate lab

Biography: Jay Wickenden is an Associate Professor of Teaching at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver campus).  He is the recipient of the Killam Teaching Prize and has worked closely with undergraduates in many different capacities over the past 8 years.  He primarily teaches at the second-year level, in both the Majors and non-Majors levels.  His laboratory teaching interests are currently focused on organometallic experiments which work to improve the teaching lab program.
