Parisa Angéline Ariya

Parisa Ariya is James McGill Professor of Chemistry and Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences. Her research mission explores important fundamental and applied questions on chemical and physical processes involving aerosols, organic, and metal pollutants in the atmosphere and at air-snow/ice/water interfaces.  Her labs also develop novel sustainable pollution remediation technology and cutting-edge ultra-trace recyclable natural nano-sensors.

Ariya has authored >120 internationally peer-reviewed publications, 3 patents, a book, >250 proceedings, and has presented >100 invited lectures around the world. Many of her works have been distinguished as highly cited, hot articles, feature articles, and cover pages. She has been privileged to mentor >150 highly qualified personnel in her laboratories.

She has served as a department chair, and has served in several other leadership positions, notably as the chairperson of the Joint European Union Panel on Arctic Climate Change, and as the editor or as editorial advisory board member of several international journals (e.g., Analytical Chemistry and Cambridge Press).

She was the lead author of two United Nation Environmental Protection chapters and has contributed to various policy reports. Ariya is involved in numerous Canadian and global outreach activities.

She is married, and a proud mother of Nicolas and Kayvan.
