Kim McAuley is a professor of chemical engineering at Queen’s University where she serves as associate dean of graduate studies. McAuley earned her BASc from the University of Waterloo and PhD from McMaster; With her graduate students and collaborators, she develops fundamental models of chemical processes and develops improved sensors for measuring 3D radiation dose distributions. Her group has developed novel statistical methods for determining appropriate values for kinetic, thermodynamic and transport parameters that appear in model equations. These methods are used for designing experiments and for selecting and tuning model parameters so that predictions match process behaviour. McAuley has developed models for leading Canadian and international companies including Abbott Point of Care, AdvanSix, BASF, DSM, DuPont, Exxon, Greenfield Specialty Alcohols, INEOS, NOVA Chemicals, Praxair and Shell.; She was associate editor for Chemical Engineering Journal and serves on the Board of Directors for the Fields Institute and International Advisory Boards for Macromolecular Theory & Simulations and Macromolecular Reaction Engineering. She has received a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for her modeling research and the MITACS mentorship award.
