Biao Huang

Biao Huang obtained his PhD degree in process control from the University of Alberta, in 1997. He received his MSc in 1986 and BSc in 1983 in automatic control from the Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics.  Huang joined the University of Alberta in 1997 as an assistant professor in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, and is currently a professor, NSERC Industrial Research Chair in Control of Oil Sands Processes and AITF Industry Chair in Process Control. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, and CIC, and recipient of Germany’s Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship, the Syncrude Canada Innovation Award, University of Alberta’s McCalla and Killam Professorship, Petro-Canada Young Innovator Award, and a best paper award from the Journal of Process Control. Huang’s research interests include: Bayesian inference, system identification, control performance assessment, fault detection and isolation, fuel cell modeling and control, and bioinformatics. Biao Huang has applied his expertise extensively in industrial practice. He also serves as the deputy eitor-in-chef for Control Engineering Practice, the asociate eitor forCanadian Journal of Chemical Engineering and asociate eitor for Journal of Process Control.
