The CSCT confers the Norman and Marion Bright Memorial Award to recognize individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to chemical technology.
The 2021 winner of the Norman and Marion Bright Award is:
Tom Sutton, M.Eng., FCIC
Dr. Tom Sutton’s education started at Memorial University of Newfoundland (Eng. Diploma and B. Sc.) and ended at McMaster (M.Eng.). Dr. Sutton worked at CIP Research in Hawkesbury for four years before starting his college teaching career.
Dr. Sutton taught Statistics and Chemical Engineering full-time at Mohawk College and part-time at McMaster University for forty-five years. He participated in numerous industrial training activities including the CSCT. During most of his time at Mohawk, he was the faculty advisor to the CSCT Student Chapter.
Dr. Sutton’s CIC activities include Chair of both the Hawkesbury and Hamilton Sections.
He was elected to the Board of Directors of the CSCT and held the position of President. Dr. Sutton became the CSCT representative on CTAB (Canadian Technology Accreditation Board) and thus was able to participate in Chemical Technology programs across the country.
Dr. Sutton’s awards include the CIC Fellowship, Mohawk’s President Award for Excellence, and an honourary alumnus of Mohawk .
