The Process Safety Management Award is presented to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution in Canada to process safety and loss management (PSLM).

The 2024 winner of the Process Safety Management Award is:
Fred Henselwood, MCIC
NOVA Chemicals
Fred Henselwood is the Process Safety Manager for NOVA Chemicals. His very first Process Safety paper looked at the detonation properties of ethylene associated with accidental releases and was published in 1991. Since that time, he has given many more papers and presentations, including being a keynote speaker at the Global Congress on Process Safety.
Within the Canadian Process Safety community, Fred works with the Canadian Society of Chemical Engineers Process Safety Management Division and with the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC) Process Safety Network. For the last 8 years, since inception, he has chaired and organized the Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS) Canadian regional meeting. He also assists Minerva Canada and has guest lectured at both the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary. Further, he is involved with the development of CSA Z767, which addresses Process Safety Management.
Globally, Fred currently chairs the CCPS Planning Board. Through CCPS he has been involved with many Process Safety projects covering topics such as blast modeling, metrics, learning from incidents, risk-based decision making, and the energy transition. He also regularly chairs sessions within the Global Congress on Process Safety and is a CCPS Fellow.
Complementing his experiences, Fred received his PhD in Material Science/Polymer Chemistry from the University of Calgary.
