The provincial chemistry associations of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia launched a new Federation of Canada’s Professional Chemists (FCPC) in Vancouver on Sunday, June 1. 2014. The role of the provincial bodies is primarily to deal with existing and pending provincial legislation and regulations and to make sure that their individual provincial members meet the professional chemistry qualifications that provincial governments expect.

Dr. B. Mario Pinto has been appointed President of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), effective fall 2014. This was announced on June 17 by James Moore, Minister of Industry, and Ed Holder, Minister of State (Science and Technology).
The Canadian Society for Chemical Technology (CSCT) members will vote on new By-laws for the society at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) May 8, 2014 in Ottawa. Members are encouraged to read the draft By-laws along with the FAQs to familiarize themselves with the content and then to attend the AGM. The CSCT Board will present the draft by-laws to the meeting and field questions from the audience.
