March 23, 2017

The Chemical Institute of Canada (CIC) promotes research funding with the government through its partnership with the Canadian Consortium for Research (CCR) - the largest advocacy coalition in Canada.

CIC and CCR submitted pre-budget Briefs to the Standing Committee on Finance (FINA) on August 8, 2016 with the following recommendations i) provide targeted fellowship funding in order to strengthen the innovation agenda of Canadian Industry, (ii) revise the international student visa and permanent residence application criteria and processes to enable the best talent in the world to study and work in Canada on a permanent basis, (iii) increase funding to tri-council programs which support innovation-enabling fundamental research and, (iv) invest in the development, maintenance, and upgrading of world class science and technology infrastructure in regional, national, and international shared facilities.

CIC, working with the other member societies, created the CCR press release “response to the 2017 federal budget.
