Canada’s secondary school chemistry whizzes brought home silver and bronze medals as well as an honourable mention at the 49th International Chemistry Olympiad team, held this past July 6-15 in the city of Nakhon Pathom in central Thailand. Team members included silver medalist Hermish Mehta of University of Toronto Schools, Jeffrey Zhou of Western Canada High School in Calgary, who won bronze, Raluca Petrut, also of University of Toronto Schools, who was awarded honourable mention and Karen Li of Marc Garneau Collegiate Institute in Toronto.

The Canadian Society for Chemistry (CSC), the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) and the Canadian National Committee for IUPAC (CNC-IUPAC) are pleased to announce that Canada has been selected to host the 48th IUPAC World Chemistry Congress and the 51st IUPAC General Assembly August 13-20, 2021 in Montréal, Canada. The bid presentation and vote process took place at the 2017 IUPAC GA & WCC Thursday, July 12, in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The Chemical Institute of Canada introduced its new executive at the CIC Annual General Meeting in Toronto, Ont. on May 31, 2017 CIC Chair, Milena Sejnoha, National Resources Canada has taken on the role as CIC Chair.
