Awards 2011 Award Winners
Canada Medal – Larry MacDonald
In his senior business roles, Larry MacDonald, Canada Medal winner, combined a passion for Responsible Care with a drive and commitment for value-added upgrading of resources in Canada. As a senior executive in Nova, and as a Chemistry Industry Association board member from 2001 to 2008, and Chairman from 2005 to 2007, he helped to create a stronger, more responsible and more sustainable chemistry industry in Canada.
Purvis Memorial Award - Frank Frantisak
Frank Frantisak, has had a distinguished and unique career as an advocate and driving force for corporate responsibility for the environment and sustainable development of resources. His work as an executive in Noranda, a global natural resources company, led directly to innovative new processes and creation of global networks committed to protecting our environmental heritage.
LeSueur Award - Mitch Winnik
Mitchell Winnik's research has focused on a broad spectrum of topics in the general area of polymer science, self-assembly, and nanochemistry. His outstanding work and consultation on latex dispersions, latex films, polymer blends, block copolymers, interpenetrating networks, and water soluble polymers has been a major contributor to industries in the field of surface coatings.
Kalev Pugi Award – Mohini Sain
Mohini Sain is a professor and director at the Centre for Biocomposites and Biomaterials Processing at the University of Toronto, and is also founder of GreenCore Composites Inc., one of three spin-offs from his research. Sain has a tremendous appetite for knowledge, tempered with an acute business acumen. Although his talents and interests lie in discovery, he works cooperatively with colleagues to bring his ideas to business fruition.
International Award – Robert Beamish
Robert Beamish left Monsanto Canada in 1978 to found Woodbridge Foam and under his leadership this company has grown to be one of Canada’s most successful transnational companies. Woodbridge Foam, following Robert’s leadership, prioritized health and safety for its customers and employees no matter where they work.
