Tsun-Kong Sham, MCIC
The University of Western Ontario
T.K. Sham obtained his PhD in chemistry from The University of Western Ontario in 1975 studying Mössbauer Spectroscopy with Michael Bancroft after his BSc in chemistry from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He joined the chemistry department at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Long Island, New York in 1977, first as a research associate with M. L. Perlman and R.E. Watson, moved up the rank to chemist in 1985. In 1988, he returned to The University of Western Ontario as an associate professor sponsored by Ontario Centre for Materials Research (OCMR) and became professor in 1991. He is presently professor of chemistry and Canada Research Chair (Tier I) in Materials and Synchrotron Radiation. From 1999–2008, he was the scientific director of the Canadian Synchrotron Radiation Facility (CSRF) at the Synchrotron Radiation Center, University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is a founding member and a beamline scientific leader of the Canadian Light Source in Saskatoon (commissioned in 2004), a state-of-the-art national facility for photon research.

This award is presented for excellence by a scientist carrying out research in Canada in physical, theoretical or computational chemistry or chemical physics.
Deadline: July 2 of every year
Sponsor: CIC Physical, Theoretical and Computation Chemistry Division
Award: A framed scroll
The recipient will be required to present an award lecture at the Canadian Chemistry Conference and Exhibition.
Membership in the Institute is not a prerequisite for this award.
All nominations will remain in force for three years. Nominators are responsible for keeping the record of the nominee up to date and complete.
The award shall be presented annually unless the Committee considers that no suitable candidate has been nominated.
