Applicable taxes for membership fees: Residents of AB, SK, MB, QC, PE, NT, NU and YT add 5% GST. Residents of BC add 12% HST. Residents of ON, NL and NB add 13% HST. Residents of NS add 15% HST.
Membership Type Descriptions and Requirements Top
Full Membership (MCIC)
For admission as a full member (MCIC), a candidate must fulfill one of the following requirements.
Hold a diploma in chemical technology or an equivalent diploma as a senior chemical technician granted by a program at a Canadian Community College or Institute of Technology that has been accredited by the Society.
Hold a chemical technician diploma or certificate granted by a program at a Canadian community college or institute of technology that has been accredited by the Society with at least one year of acceptable experience in the profession of chemical technology.
Hold a diploma or certificate from a non-accredited program from a Canadian institution or from a foreign institution where, in either case, the Credentials Committee has judged the program to be equivalent to those accredited by the Society. Candidates from programs judged to be not equivalent will be accepted with at least three years of experience in the profession of chemical technology.
Hold a diploma in a branch of technology other than chemical technology, or an equivalent diploma from an accredited Canadian program, or one approved by the Credentials Committee and who has at least three years experience in the profession of chemical technology.
Be a member of an association, order or corporation of technologists established under the laws of Canada, or a Province or Territory and have at least three years of experience in the profession of chemical technology.
Be involved in the education of chemical technologists and have qualifications equivalent to those required of a full member of any Constituent Society of The Institute.
A candidate who does not hold any of the qualifications listed above, but who is a recognized authority on chemical technology and has attained a high degree of eminence.
Postdoctoral Membership
Members who are postdoctoral students are eligible for postdoctoral membership which is available for up to three years from their year of graduation.
Graduate Student Membership
Students who are currently enrolled in a full-time master's or doctoral program are eligible for a graduate student membership.
Undergraduate Student Membership
Students who are currently enrolled a full-time bachelor's or diploma program are eligible for an undergraduate student membership.
Retired Membership
Members who have retired from active full-time employment and for whom the sum of their age plus years of membership equals a minimum of 85 are eligible for retired membership.
High School Teachers
High school teachers actively involved in teaching chemical technology to high school students are eligible for high school teachers membership.
Spousal Membership
In addition to fulfilling at least one of the full member requirements, when someone from a married couple is a full CSCT member his/her partner is eligible for spousal membership.
First Year After Graduation Membership
For the first year only after graduating from any undergraduate or graduate degree or technology program, members are eligible for a first year after graduation membership. You will have to note your graduation date and degree or diploma obtained.
Unemployed Member
Full members, who have maintained consistent membership for three years, and who provide evidence of unemployment at the time of renewal are eligible for unemployed membership which is available for up to two years.
Designations Top
Member of the Chemical Institute of Canada (MCIC)
Any member of CIC or a constituent Society CSC, CSChE or CSCT upon paying appropriate fees, will be given the designation of MCIC.
Associate Member (ACIC)
Anyone associated with the practice of, or with an interest in chemical technology, who does not qualify as a full member, but who wishes to support the objectives of the Society may apply as an associate member.
Fellow of the Chemical Institute of Canada (FCIC)
CIC Fellowship is a senior class of membership that recognizes the merits of CIC members who have made
outstanding contributions. Nominate someone for FCIC
designation.
