Return to index Awards and PrizesThis competition identifies the top students in each of six regions of Canada:
Atlantic, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba/Saskatchewan/Nunavut, Alberta/NWT and British Columbia/Yukon. There are
three winners in each region. This contest is organized by the Chemical Education Division of the Chemical Institute of Canada with the help of coordinators at universities across the country. Format of the Canadian Chemistry ContestThe Canadian Chemistry Contest consists of the contest combined with the Canadian Chemistry Olympiad (CCO) Selection examination. It consists of three parts:
All three sections of the Contest may be written in either English or French. Parts A and B constitute the Canadian Chemistry Contest, and are prepared by the National Examiner for the Chemical Education Division of The Chemical Institute of Canada. The National Examiner has written an open letter to the Teacher about the format of the contest, the data available to students, the intent of the contest, and the level (and source) of the questions. The CCO Olympiad Selection Examination consists of the same Part A together with Part C which is designed by the CCO. Further information about the CCO Examination can be found on their website Canadian Chemistry Olympiad. Those interested in both competitions could write Parts A, B and C with a total time of four hours. Return to index Previous contests/examinationsBeginning in 1997, the CIC National High School Chemistry Examination (NHSCE) and the CCO National Selection Examination were combined. In November 2006, the NHSCE became the Canadian Chemistry Contest, for high school and cégep students For information about previous CCO Examinations contact the Canadian Chemistry Olympiad. You can download copies of CIC Canadian Chemistry Contest/National High School Examinations from previous years from this site. Detailed solutions for Part A of the most recent examinations are also available. These examinations can be used as practice exams by students wishing to see the types of questions asked. Students are encouraged to try the examinations before looking at the solutions provided.
