Presented for leadership qualities and demonstrated contributions to the CSChE such as participation in Student Chapters as well as academic performance.
The 2016 winners of a CSChE Chemical Engineering Local Section Scholarships are:
University of Alberta
Cathy Grant is working towards her degree in chemical engineering at the University of Alberta, and will be graduating in April 2017. She has been actively involved in the Chemical Engineering Students’ Society at the university, which serves as the CSChE Edmonton Student Chapter. She has held positions including Geer Week Coordinator, co-VP Student Life, and co-President. As part of Grant’s degree program she gains work experience and has worked at Agrium, Syncrude, and is currently working at Shell where she will be completing this final work term in December. Besides her academic and school involvement, Grant has played on several sport teams throughout her degree including soccer and volleyball.
Michael Khouri will be graduating with a Bachelor of chemical engineering from Laurentian University in April 2017. Khouri graduated with an Honours Degree in biochemisty in 2013. His involvement with his CSChE Student Chapter began 2013 when he became a member of the Laurentian University Chemical Engineering Chapter; Khouri has since been elected president for the 2015-2016 academic years. He has organized numerous events, industry tours and workshops with his Executive Council to introduce fellow students to the wide variety of opportunities within the chemical engineering discipline. Academics have always been important to Khouri but he also enjoys playing recreational sports. He is eager to apply the knowledge and skills he has gained throughout his academic career following his graduation this spring. He would like to thank his family and friends for their support and the CSChE for the many opportunities they have provided him through his involvement with his Student Chapter.
