Terms of Reference
First administered by The Chemical Institute of Canada (CIC) in 1951, the
award is presented as a mark of distinction and recognition to a person who has made an outstanding
contribution to the science of chemistry or chemical engineering in Canada.
Deadline
July 2 of every year
Award
A medal and travel expenses to the conference to present the plenary
lecture.
Eligibility
A person who has made an outstanding contribution to the science of chemistry or chemical
engineering in Canada.
Application
Please submit the original along with six (6) copies of the nomination package to the CIC
Conferences and Awards Coordinator.
Every nomination shall be accompanied by an accurate and detailed description of the meritorious contribution
of the nominee.
Membership in the Institute is not a prerequisite for this award.
The award shall be presented annually at the Canadian Chemistry Conference and Exhibition or the Canadian
Chemical Engineering Conference. The recipient will be required to present an award lecture at the
conference.
All nominations will remain in force for three years. Nominators are responsible for keeping the record
of the nominee up to date and complete.
Selection Committee
- CIC Chair or Past Chair, on a rotating basis, who will act as chair of the
Selection Committee
- Appointee of the National Research Council of Canada
- Appointee of Academy III of the Royal Society of Canada
- Appointee of the CIC, other than the CIC Chair or Past Chair
- Two past CIC medallists
This Committee will submit its recommendation to the CIC Board for approval at
its next meeting. No member of the Committee of Award will nominate any candidate. The award
shall be presented annually unless the Committee considers that no suitable candidate has been
nominated.
